Lone Worker Safety

Who should attend?

Employees who have contact with the public and who are lone workers in the office, in public areas and in client’s homes.

Why should you attend?

It will give staff basic skills in how to recognise behaviour and attitudes that lead to violence and aggression and how to use de-escalation techniques to combat it.

Key Areas to be covered in the course


Level 1
This half day course has been designed to give basic skills in how to recognise behaviour and attitudes that lead to violence and aggression and how to use de-escalation techniques to combat it.
It includes: -
  • How violence can start
  • Our perception of violence/aggression in society
  • Responses to aggression
  • Behaviour breeds behaviour
  • Defensive behaviour
  • Abusive/threatening telephone calls
  • Making a visit
  • Safety out and about and in the car
  • Reasonable force to defend yourself
Level 2
This one- day course has been designed for those employees who have been assessed as being of a higher risk than other employees, and includes instruction in breakaway techniques.

It includes: -
  • How violence can start
  • Our perception of violence/aggression in society
  • Responses to aggression
  • Behaviour breeds behaviour
  • Defensive behaviour
  • Abusive/threatening telephone calls
  • Making a visit
  • Safety out and about and in the car
  • Reasonable force to defend yourself
  • Listening skills
  • De-briefing after an incident
  • Driver conflict
  • Road rage
  • Physical attack and how to defend yourself
  • Breakaway techniques – a practical demonstration and practice

Course Details

Courses available are half day or full day sessions and tailored specifically to the client's needs. Each course uses the latest in multimedia teaching aids and uses a combination of traditional teaching and group activity. Day long courses include breakaway sessions.
